School’s out: Why is the NJEA convention during the school year?

Posted on 05 November 2010

Thursday and Friday this week are school holidays for public school children in the state of New Jersey?  Why?  Because the New Jersey Education Association is having it annual convention in Atlantic City.  With all of the days teachers have available during the summer as well as fall and spring breaks, it seem incomprehensible to me that an additional two days need to be taken off two months into the school year for a convention.

They actually get paid for going to this convention, through getting paid for those two days off. They should do this while school is out for a break, why should we pay them to go to the convention. Why should our children spend extra days in school in the summer to get to their 180 required school days when they could have had two of those in November.

I couldn’t agree more. A lot of the teachers don’t go so they get an additional two days off with pay. This is outrageous it is time to break up the teachers union.

The NJEA is as corrupt as any political machine. In my town it is said that it costs $15,000 per student to educate one student,so it is justified to fork over in some cases 1/3 of a salary to property taxes .The kids today are coming out of the schools not Knowing how many quarts make up a gallon and to top it off how to tell time on a dial clock! Home economics teaches nothing on “economics” and kids in the 1st.grade are still going over their colors! Unfortunately The NJEA IS only a big business that robs the tax payer using the Children as their front.
