Adler attacks….Lonegan? Huh
Posted on 07 October 2010
In what appears to be an ever increasing effort to change the subject from his own record, John Adler (D-NJ 3) has decided that instead of attacking his opponent, he will attack Steve Lonegan. Terry Hurlbut from the Essex County Examiner explains:
Incumbent Democrat John Adler (D-NJ-3) yesterday demanded that his challenger, Jon Runyan, disavow any alliance with former gubernatorial candidate Steve Lonegan and his organization, Americans for Prosperity New Jersey. In response, Lonegan demanded that Adler face up to his record of support for bigger government and higher taxes.
Apparently, Adler is not happy with the American’s for Prosperity position on Social Security:
At issue: Americans for Prosperity has been saying for years that the Social Security system is insolvent and will someday be unable to pay out benefits at promised levels, and that sooner than anyone thinks. They propose that current workers be allowed to establish personal accounts over which they would have a measure of control. Democrats, including Adler, call this “privatization” of Social Security and speak of it as though it were a bad thing. And they are accusing Runyan of wanting to propose something similar.
I am not sure about anyone else but the Adler campaign seems a little unhinged. It is starting to seem like he is a little too addicted to power and wants to do absolutely anything to keep it. He is running negative ads that are on so frequently and say so little that the are at best petty and at worst more like the teacher from Charlie Brown (wha wha wha…whah wha whah). There are questions that he put up a fake tea party candidate. He has supporters stalk Runyan’s little girl. And now he is attacking Runyan for a position he hasn’t formally taken but MIGHT because he knows Steve Lonegan?
I bet Mr Lonegan is highly amused that the mere touch of his suit jacket by Jon Runyan will cause the candidate to adopt every thought and idea of American’s for Prosperity and project it telepathically to the electorate. Adler is desperate and we have suspected all along why-the math says he cannot win without either a third party candidate or making something negative stick to Runyan. Keep at it John. It gives all of us plenty to write about.
